Page 1 of 2 This department is located 207 kms from Guatemala City. It is one of the highest altitude departments of the country and therefore one of the coldest. Totonicapán is consider one of the tourist center more attractive of the country because its villages and towns have many religious and civil buildings, and the production of art and handicraft manufacturing hold an important place in the domestic economy of its people. On the outskirt of the city lies the Tanque de los Dragones (Tank of the Dragons), fountain and washing pool during the century XX, and is still being used by its inhabitants. San Miguel Totonicapán is the municipal state capital of Totonicapán, where it is interesting to see the Municipal Theater of San Miguel Totonicapán. The Cultural House, that contains a small museum unfinished, with a collection of pre-Hispanic, republican and ethnic art; the office of tourism provides maps handicraft to the public to visit 53 textile workshops approximately, pottery and toys in wood that make of this city one of the handicraft center most important of the country.
