Page 1 of 3 This department has a territorial extension of 1,951kms squared, with a cold climate in the highlands and warm on the coastal area. The languages that are spoken are Spanish, Quiché and Mam. Quetzaltenango is a beautiful city of the highlands; settle in an extensive valley surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. It conserves the antique traditions of the Mayan-Quiche, mixed up with a colonial past and dynamic modern life. It is currently considered, as the second most important city of Guatemala, due to its size, industrial, cultural and commercial activity.
It has an important façade, Neoclassical building, architectural jewel and proud of the native people of that place. It has a capacity of 1,050 seats and from 1916 is the scenario in which the winners of the Floral Games of Central America are awarded, which is carrying out during September.
It is located in the center of the city, and also is the social activity center of that same place. The first Sundays of months during the dry epoch is carrying out an excellent market of handicrafts. The park is surrounded by an impressionist monumental complex, outstanding the baroque façade of the Church.
It is located in front of the Centro America Park that communicates the 12 with the 13 Avenue of the center of the city. In the arch in the west side outstanding figures in “grafito”, stained-glass wondows and a huge grating that equal to the other extreme are the biggest in the city. |
