With average temperatures at 72 º Fahrenheit, Guatemala can be visited any time of the year. The country enjoys two seasons: the rainy from May to October and the dry season from November to April.

The average temperature in the highlands is 64.9 F º, on the coasts is 77 F º and in Guatemala City about 66.2 º F.

History

Guatemala is the heart of the Mayan world. It is alive, magical, mystical and ancestral. The country’s history began four thousand years ago when the Mayan civilization emerged and established a legacy still evident today in the traditions and culture of Guatemalans.

Guatemala possesses extraordinary culture and natural richness with a privileged geographic location. The distances to travel from one place to another are so short that one can visit different regions during the same trip. It is a unique country, full of adventure and diverse activities for all.

It is known as the country of eternal spring; its pleasant weather conditions allows one to visit any time of the year. With two international airports including La Aurora, located in the capital city and Mundo Maya, located in the department of Petén, Guatemala is very accessible.

From its colorful handcraft markets, regional costumes and warm hospitality to the natural beauty of the landscapes boasting volcanoes, serene lakes, rivers, and mountains - Guatemala leaves a impactful impression on the heart. It’s natural, cultural and historic heritage is evident in every corner of the country.

Guatemala is home to the most archeological sites of the Mayan culture which are beautifully set within lush vegetation that showcases the country’s impressive flora and fauna. The magic and mystery of the Mayan world exist in cities like Tikal, Yaxhá, Aguateca, Mirador, Quiriguá and Q´uma´rkaj among others.

With its prime location and top-notch land and maritime facilities, Guatemala caters to other niche segments including cruise ships on both the Pacific and Atlantic Coasts. The sport fishing resources of the Pacific Coast are also well-known, which have established Guatemala as one of the best places in the world for sport fishing, especially for sailfish. With more than 720 species of birds, Guatemala is a wonderful destination for bird watching. Additionally, the country has all the necessary elements to facilitate business activities and is ideal for national and international conventions.

Immigration Information

Central American citizens may enter Guatemala by showing their Residential Card, which is their only identification document, or their current passport. European and American visitors do not need a Visa. Visitors from other nationalities, please visit www.migracion.gob.gt

All regular immigration and customs forms at the borders of Guatemala are free. In special cases where a charge is applied, the relevant authorities must provide proof of payment.

Taxes

The departure tax from Guatemala is USD $ 30.00; in addition to this, the airport security fee is USD $3.00.
